Novi Sad: The Democratic Party (DS) Vice-President Bojan Pajtic stated yesterday that the victory “For a European Vojvodina” list at the provincial elections means that people wan EU integration.
For a European Vojvodina won 41 seats in the second round of the provincial vote, the Serb Radical Party Party (SRS) won 5, various citizens’ groups won 5, the Hungarian coalition won 4, and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) won 2. The League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV), the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Socialist Party of Serbia won one seat each.
In victory speech, Pajtic said, “I thank the citizens for the confidence they’ve shown. This victory is a clear indicator that the majority of citizens seeks European integration for our country, and that SRS and DSS voters have started voting for Serbia’s European future too.”
Pajtic said that the DS and its coalition partners, the LSV and the Hungarian coalition, had a two-thirds majority in the Vojvodina Assembly, and would form a governing majority in the province on that basis. He added that besides these parties, the assembly majority would be supplemented by two citizens’ groups and LDP MP from Novi Becej Milivoj Vrebalov, with whom the DS reached a pre-election agreement on mutual support.
Pajtic said, “These elections should be an indicator to all political parties as to what direction the future government should take, and to how two-thirds of our country’s citizens are thinking.”
