Vrbas: Giving setback to the Democratic Party, The Serb Radical Party (SRS), the Socialists, and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) have signed a coalition agreement in Vrbas. The coalition agreement was signed by the presidents of the three parties’ respective municipal committees— Igor Becic, Jovan Miljanic and Miroslav Aleksic.
There are 36 seats in Vrbas. Of these the SRS gained 16 seats, the Socialists 4, and the DSS 3 at the local elections. The coalition makes their total 26, which means their majority. The opposition “For a European Serbia – Boris Tadi?” coalition won 13 seats, compared to the nine seats won by the Democratic Party in 2004.
Vrbas was led by the SRS-Socialist-DSS coalition during the previous mandate, after the 2004 elections when the SRS gained 14 seats, the Socialists four, and the DSS two.
Signing the coalition agreement, the three parties announced that they would continue the good cooperation and successful leadership of the Vrbas municipality over the next four years, with the aim of, as they put it, raising the standard of living in the municipality as soon as possible.
