‘Kosovo Is An Independent Country’ – Hashim Thaci

Speaking on the Serbian elections in Prizren, the Kosovo Prime Ministe, Hashim Thaci did not comment directly whether they will be held in the province, but he reiterated that “Kosovo is an independent country”.
Thaci said, “Kosovo is working on its own state agenda with international representatives. We will build good neighborly relations with all neighbors and with Macedonia, which made a decision to recognize Kosovo, something that will be made public in the coming days.”

Thaci claimed that Kosovo would develop relations with Albania and Montenegro, and claimed that the latter, too, “will recognize independence soon.” Speaking of relations with Belgrade, Thaci said that they are the “relations of two independent states”, and he expects the relations will improve further.

Thaci said, “There is a difference between Serbian citizens and Serbs who live in Kosovo and are part of the government and parliament of Kosovo. We will work for them, for the good of the country and all citizens of Kosovo.”

He announced that work on the Vrbnica-Merdare highway would begin soon, adding that it will pass through the Prizren municipality. He also announced the restoration of the Kaljaja fortress, hamams in Bistrici and the modernization of primary and middle schools.

“In early June, a donors conference will be held in Brussels, and based on the prepared project by the local government in Prizren, EUR 500-600mn will be received for the realization of the project,” Thaci said.

Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo took over the local government in Prizren from the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo, and formed a new municipal government with the Bosniacs, Turks, Romas and the Alliance for New Kosovo in the last elections.
