Albin Kurti Calls On The Kosovo Institutions To Block The Serbian Elections

Albin Kurti, the leading activist behind VETËVENDOSJE! – the group in Kosovo which opposes the United Nations administration in the province and campaigns for the independence of Kosovo as part of a Kosovo Albanian right of self-determination, yesterday called on the Kosovo institutions to block the Serbian elections.

The leader of Self-Determination movement said, “They (the institutions) could prevent them. They can close the borders to the Serbian electoral commission, they can deny them access to public buildings that they plan to use as polling stations.”

He announced that there is possibility of further talks between Pristina and Belgrade. Kurti said, “There is a chance that after the elections, when Serbian leaders receive legitimacy, a new round of talks will be organized between Pristina and Belgrade.”

Kurti said that “Kosovo is moving towards cantonization, and turning into a new Bosnia-Hercegovina.” He warned, “We mustn’t allow a Republic of Srpska in the eastern part of Kosovo, while in the northern part, it could be said that one already exists. Serbia is trying, via these elections, to create another in the east of Kosovo.”

The Self-Determination movement announced that it would be holding a protest on May 9 in Pristina, and called on Kosovo’s citizens to come out in force.
