UNMIK: Serbia Is Willing To Cooperate In Northern Kosovo

Pristina: Serbia is showing willingness to cooperate in the area of the rule of law in northern Kosovo, said the UNMIK Deputy Chief David Harland, who, along with UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier, was in a delegation that met with Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanovic.

According to Harland, Serb police in central Kosovo “will find a way to return to the Kosovo police.”

Harland asserted, “They (in Belgrade) are giving signals that they want to move forward. They said they want to cooperate on restoration of the rule of law in northern Kosovo. It seems that they want this for their own reasons, but, for the first time, they said they would not insist on parallel institutions and on Serbia’s jurisdiction in the north…We now have to test Belgrade’s readiness and that is what we are doing.”

The UNMIK Deputy made announcement that the agreement regarding the court in northern Kosovska Mitrovica would be implemented on Friday, expressing his optimism regarding resolution of the issue of Serb members of the Kosovo police, who want to work under UNMIK command.

He said, “I am fairly optimistic that 300 policemen who used to work in the area south of the Ibar River can find a way to return to work under a single command.”
