Pristina: Aimed to obstruct the recognitions of Kosovo, the Serb campaign “is not causing fear” — stated yesterday the Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu. The Kosovo President, who will travel to the United Nations in September “for talks with a large number of foreign statesmen,” said, “the Serb offensive against the recognition of independence does not scare Kosovo and its international partners.”
Sejdiu said, “Serbia has had many offensives so far, including the one when it covered Kosovo in blood, then setting fire to the embassies of the countries that had recognized Kosovo, while the last one has the goal of placing Kosovo and the countries that recognized it in the dock, however, it is all in vain.”
The Kosovo President also said that he believes that there will be new recognitions, and added that “the Serb policy of pressure is futile, while Kosovo’s road of independence is irreversible”.
He continued that Kosovo will create all preconditions for “a modern state”, in other words, will have “an elite army”, functional police, successful diplomacy and functional government, that will secure economic development. He said, “Among the countries that have recognized Kosovo are those who achieve 60 percent of the world’s GDP and those who finance 80 percent of the UN expenses.”
Kosovo’s ethnic Albanians unilaterally declared independence in February, which was rejected as illegal by Serbia. The Kosovo President issued the abovementioned statements as Belgrade is preparing to ask the International Court of Justice, ICJ, to give its opinion on the legality of the proclamation of secession.
