The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Rosemary DiCarlo, who was in Pristina meeting with Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, revealed that U.S. is negotiating over its role in the EU’s Kosovo mission (EULEX).
DiCarlo said, “Talks regarding the configuration of the mission are ongoing. I am glad to say that the U.S. is negotiating its participation in EULEX. We will continue to work on this plan, as soon as possible.”
She said, “The Kosovo administration clearly said in its declaration of independence that the UN would continue to be present in Kosovo. It is still being discussed in what form and with what role.”
She added that the Kosovo institutions would take on new obligations after the constitution came into force on June 15.
DiCarlo accentuated that Kosovo independence could not be reversed, and that the U.S. was ready to help Kosovo with its development.
