UN Security Council has agreed to allow Serbian President Boris Tadic and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci to attend the meeting of UNSC to discuss the UN mission in Kosovo.
However, the officials warned that the meeting is not meant to reopen the stalled direct talks between Tadic and Thaci on Kosovo’s disputed status.
Security Council president Giadalla Ettalhi of Libya said, “It has been agreed that we will have an open debate in which the president of Serbia will speak.”
In the meeting, there will be a closed-door session at which Thaci will be allowed to speak, he added.
UN Special envoy will deliver a briefing for Kosovo Joachim Rucker on the latest report on the activities of the UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
UN Chief Ban Ki Moon has warned in his report, “The status quo in Kosovo is not likely to be sustainable. Should the impasse continue, events on the ground could take a momentum of their own, putting at serious risk the achievements and legacy of the United Nations in Kosovo.”
