Kosovo Customs Chief Gets Assaulted

Pristina: The assault, on top authorities of the UN-administered entity’s Custom Service, is condemned by officials in Kosovo.
The Deputy Director of Customs, Ekrem Hajdari, was beaten by two assailants with baseball bats on Saturday, however he is not hospitalized.
Hajdari is in charge of dealing with organized crime and smuggling investigations within the Service.
Zenun Pajaziti, Kosovo’s new Minister of Interior, has condemned the incident, and said, “His ministry will work closely with all necessary mechanisms in order to prevent such criminal acts against any official.”
The police are searching for two suspects who were unidentified.
The Custom Service’s spokesperson, Adriatik Stavileci has related the incident to professional work of Hajdari.
Stavileci said, “The assault must be related to Hajdari’s post, although we’re waiting for the outcome of the police investigation.”
“As part of the investigations several Customs officers were suspended, the other Deputy Director of the Customs Service was arrested, and internal inquiries were conducted into the activities of 50 Service officers,” he added.
