Britain’s Prime Minister, Gordon Brown will focus on foreign policy on his first, short, official visit to Brussels.Brown and his foreign secretary David Miliband will talk about Kosovo, Iran, globalization and immigration with the other EU leaders.
For the first time, the formal agenda for the EU summit is almost independent of complex discussions as the reform treaty was signed in Lisbon yesterday.
On Iran’s issue, Brown is likely to seek support for his belief that sanctions are still necessary, despite a recent American report claiming that the Iranians are not currently building nuclear weapons.
The debate on Kosovo will attempt to set European unity behind Kosovo’s move to independence, however some member states are wary of supporting a move which is being opposed by Russia at the United Nations.
The Britain’s prime minister is also likely to give cautious supporting to the set up of an EU group to look at future EU policy.
