Lavrov: The Idea Of Kosovo Army Will Not Be A Success

The ideas launched outside the mandate regulated by UN Resolution 1244 “will not be successful”, said the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday. He said the policy that pushed for the creation of the armed forces in the territory of Kosovo “will not be a success either”.In a news conference yesterday in London, Lavrov said, “The policy of the creation of armed forces right on the territory of Kosovo will not be a success, because all actions should satisfy both parties.” Lavrov was participating in a meeting of the so-called Middle East quartet in London.

When the Russian Foreign Minister was asked whether Russia felt that it was left out of the Kosovo process, since the Western partners held a separate meeting today, Lavrov said, “Our partners have the right to discuss any problem at their meetings. Russia does not feel that it has been left out of the process of solving the Kosovo problem.”

He said that discussions on the issue are held at the UN Security Council “all the time”, and Russia takes part in the meeting as a permanent member of the Security Council.
