Jakup Krasniqi, Kosovo Albanian Assembly Speaker yesterday stated that he expected the EU mission “to spread to the whole territory of Kosovo by October”.

Krasniqi’s statement came after a meeting Saturday with Rosemary DiCarlo, deputy U.S. representative to the UN in New York. According to reports, Krasniqi and member of the assembly presidency Slobodan Petrovic are visiting the United States.

Krasniqi said, “The security situation is stable, however the north of Kosovo is an exceptions, where stability is not such as we would want it to be.” He asserted that he expected “the spreading of EULEX” to contribute to the stabilization of the conditions in northern Kosovo. The Assembly Speaker also said that the “goal of the institutions are continued recognitions of Kosovo and UN membership”.

He said, “In the dialogue with Serbia, only technical issues can be discussed with Belgrade, but Serbia is not ready to engage itself for the good of the Kosovo Serbs”.

In a statement issued by the Kosovo assembly, Petrovic said, “There are problems with parallel institutions financed by Serbia. We expect that this will end and for the decentralization process to begin. The problem for the Serb community in Kosovo is economic development bearing in mind the high degree of unemployment.”
