No Security Risk in Southern Serbia - Rasim Ljajic

Bujanovac: Rasim Ljajic, who is the president of the Coordinating Body for the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja stated that there is no threat to the political security condition in southern Serbia accompanying the happening on August 4, when frictions passed off between robbers and member of the police and gendarmerie.

While his tour of the Bujanovac-Konculj area where the clashes happed, Mr. Ljajic said that neither this occurrence, nor the two murder cases in Bujanovac and Presevo have a political background, but defensive step must be taken owing to the reality that the areas in question are receptive.

He said that one of the precautionary actions will be toughened teamwork between Serbian police, KFOR and UNMIK police to detect where culprits of such acts in Bujanovac and Presevo secure their weapons supply.

According to him, such group action is imperative to recognize the culprits who principally escape to Kosovo-Metohija, where they are capable of hiding without any problems.

The number of security forces in the Ground Safety Zone will not be decreased or increased in the Bujanovac and Presevo municipalities, but, police patrols on the Bujanovac-Konculj area will be increased.

The Coordinating Body will be regrouped and rather than eight there will be three working groups that will cope with the security issues, economic system and the desegregation of Albanians into Serbian political life.
