Spain confirms second case of swine flu

Madrid – A second case of swine flu has been diagnosed in Spain, Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez said Tuesday. The patient, who was hospitalized in the eastern city of Valencia, was doing well and could soon go home, Jimenez said. The young man had travelled to Mexico recently as part of the same group as the first person diagnosed in Spain with the disease.

The 23-year-old man who was diagnosed on Monday was being treated at a hospital in Almansa in the south-east.

He was now almost without symptoms and would go home shortly, his mother said.

The Spanish authorities are investigating about 25 other suspected cases of swine flu. The patients, most of whom are in their 20s, have been to Mexico recently, media reported.

Jimenez described the situation as being “stable and under control.”

Travel agencies meanwhile reported numerous cancellations of trips to Mexico after the government advised avoiding travel to the Latin American country. (dpa)
