‘Interval Training’ a Bliss for Older People

Interval TrainingExperts have suggested that aggressive exercise sessions could help people squeeze an entire week’s workout into less than an hour. Studies on intense training are reportedly published in sports medicine journals and majorly emphasised young, healthy people.Short and intense exercise regimes known as interval training are twice as effective as regular exercise, researchers in Norway claimed.

These interval training regimens were originally developed for Olympic athletes and believed to be strenuous for normal people, Helgerud told The Daily Telegraph in a story published Friday.

“This is like finding a new pill that works twice as well … we should immediately throw out the old way of exercising”, said Jan Helgerud, a researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Britain and the U.S., officials have revealed that 2 1/2 hours of moderate exercise every week could be pack into one, saving people many hours a year. The training involves working hard for a few minutes and then resting, usually while biking, rowing, swimming or running.

However, experts reveal that more studies are needed to seek how older and less fit populations manage this type of exercise regime before it can be recommended more widely.
