Madrid – Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are planning a “goalkeeper revolution” for next season, according to sports daily AS on Friday.
AS claims that Atletico have this week sealed the signing of young Valladolid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo for 5.5 million euros (7.59 million dollars).
Asenjo, 20 in June, has impressed several clubs this season, including Liga champions Barcelona.
AS also claims that Atletico will not renew the contract of Argentine goalkeeper Leo Franco, 32, who is about to sign for Turkish giants Galatasaray, or of Gregory Coupet, 36, who arrived from Lyon a year ago but has hardly played. (dpa)
