Hannover – It’s now cheap and easy to create virtual worlds or animated figures for computer games.
While plenty of professional-grade 3D software is available, the free or low-cost software is usually a better choice for newcomers to the field. A review by Hanover-based iX magazine showed that those programs have plenty to offer and are often easier to use.
Vue 7 Pioneer is one example of free software that allows users to create natural-looking landscapes, including clouds, trees and bodies of water (www. e-onsoftware. com/products/vue/vue_7_pioneer).
The magazine recommends that gaming fans check out MilkShape, which costs 25 dollars (http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch). It can create 3D objects in more than 70 file formats for import into popular games like Quake, Warcraft or The Sims. (dpa)
