Putting the words of Steve Jobs into action, Apple has filed a patent-infringement complaint against Taiwan’s HTC with the International Trade Commission. In March 2007 at the launch of iPhone, Jobs said that Apple had applied for more than 200 patents and was ready to enforce them.
Apple now wants ITC’s intervention in the matter and is seeking to ban US imports of HTC’s phones that infringes as many as 10 patents and allegedly use Apple’s user interface, underlying architecture and more features, which Apple claims were just copied without permission.
By taking the case to ITC, Apple wants to curb HTC – maker of Android-based operating system handsets, including Google’s Nexus One.
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it,” Jobs, said in a statement. “We’ve decided to do something about it.”
Apple is also embroiled in a patent fight with Nokia, with both parties seeking to block imports of the other company’s phones. Motorola and RIM are also locked in similar dispute.
