Belgrade: The Serbian police (MUP) force in Belgrade has stated that it will undertake all security measures during today’s rally in the capital, in which demonstrators will gather in the afternoon to protest the arrest of Hague indictee Radovan Karadzic.
Organized by the opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS), the rally will start at 19:00 CET.
Slobodan Vukolic, the Belgrade MUP chief has said that his officers will secure participants of the rally, reporters, and some venues and buildings of importance.
Vukolic said, “The members of the Belgrade police, together with those from Zandarmerija [Gendarmerie], will, along with activities to protect private and state owned property, especially emphasize safety of those taking part in the gathering and those representing the media.”
MUP has also stated that it will follow its regular procedure for the so-called high risk gatherings, which includes video-taping and photographing of the participants.
