Signing The SAA With EU Means Signing Away Kosovo’s Independence – Vojislav Kostunica

Serbian Prime Minister, Vojislav Kostunica yesterday stated that signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU would be signing away Kosovo’s independence. He said Serbia can defend Kosovo so long as it does not sign off on a document giving away part of its territory.

Kostunica asked the EU that it must answer the question, within which borders it sees Serbia. He said the 17 EU countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence have thus nullified Article 135 of SAA.

The Serbian Prime Minister pointed out that despite a long territorial dispute, Cyprus was granted EU membership as a whole entity and that Serbia expects nothing less for itself. He said that there is legal ground for initiating proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against countries that recognized Kosovo, primarily the US.

Reacting to the EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn’s statement that Serbia should establish good-neighborly relations with Kosovo, Kostunica said Rehn’s statement represents the official position of Brussels.

He said, Signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) means Serbia recognizes Kosovo’s independence and commits itself to cooperate with this fictitious state. He stated that no one has the right to sign the SAA on behalf of Serbia since it is unconstitutional and its overt intention is the dismemberment of Serbia.

Kostunica said, now it is completely clear that Solana’s agreement is the final act of the project to create the first NATO state, started by the bombing of Serbia, arming of the Kosovo Liberation Army, construction of Bondsteel and drafting of Ahtisaari’s plan, which ensures that the commander of NATO troops would be the supreme organ of authority in Kosovo.

Kostunica called on international community to respect Serbia’s constitution and sovereignty. He said, Serbia will continue with its principled policy that Kosovo is Serbia, which is supported by more than 150 states around the world.
