Tadic Vocalizes In UN Security Council

Belgrade: Serbian President, Boris Tadic on Monday addressing the UN Security Council urged the countries that have recognized the illegal declaration of Kosovo independence to reconsider their decision.

Tadic called on the UN Security Council to find a new, sustainable and mutually acceptable solution “to remedy the situation created by the unilateral decision of interim Kosovo institutions”. He also sought the UN support to the holding of Serbian parliamentary and, especially, local elections in Kosovo on May 11, and demanded the halting of the transfer of UNMIK’s powers to any other mission.

Addressing the first UN SC session following the declaration of Kosovo independence, Tadic said, the UN Charter Article VII, the UN SC Resolution 1244 binds all member-states to respect Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also expressed his concern over a lack of reaction by the UN after the unilateral declaration. He criticized the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s latest report which mentions independence and a new reality on the ground.

Tadic said, “It is absolutely unacceptable that the report does not mention Serbia’s demands or her argument that the ‘new reality’ is the result of a violation of Resolution 1244″.
