Jeremic: Serbia Will Never Relinquish Its Territorial Integrity

Belgrade: Vuk Jeremic, the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs yesterday reiterated that Serbia will never and under no circumstances relinquish its territorial integrity, and it will keep opposing the unilateral independence of Kosovo-Metohija.

Jeremic had a meeting with his Slovak counterpart Jan Kubis, and Jeremic and Kubis said that they agree that Serbia should sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU as soon as possible, but that does not mean Serbia will stop fighting for to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Jeremic said that signing of the SAA, which is at this point the key technical step towards EU membership, does not mean that Serbia will give up on its foremost priority in state policy, and that is to preserve the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The two FMs said the best way to retain Kosovo within Serbia is to sign the SAA, noted the Minister and added that Serbia’s EU road does not imply giving up the principled stance on the Kosovo issue.

Slovak FM Slovak, Jan Kubis said that Slovakia supports Serbia as a future EU member and that it would like to sign the SAA with Serbia shortly, even today, if possible. But, Slovakia remains resolute in its decision not to recognise Kosovo’s unilaterally proclaimed independence, emphasised Kubis and added that its stance on this issue has not changed.
