Belgrade: The DS leader Boris Tadic yesterday called on all parties to respect the will of the people of Serbia; they convincingly voted in favor of resuming EU integration in May 11 elections.
Tadic said, “That strategic direction is the only chance Serbian citizens have of making a better life and there’s no post-election maths that the union of [Vojislav] Šeselj and [Vojislav] Kostunica can use to hide their electoral fiasco. The election losers did not receive a mandate from the people to deprive them of their prospects and future.”
According to the DS leader, the people had voted for policies that the parties, lists and coalitions had offered them at the elections. Stressing that post election coalition between radicals is “deceiving the citizens,” Tadic said, “The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) did not tell its voters at the election campaign that their policies post-May 12 would be the manifesto of [Serb Radical Party leader] Vojislav Seselj.”
Tadi c claimed that the “For a European Serbia” list had won 1,577,000 votes at the elections, which was 1,100,000 votes more than the DSS-New Serbia coalition. He said, “Those who from election to election have less and less votes, have an ever greater desire to hang on to power, and are the exact same people who wish to manipulate the national will and usurp power.”
