Nikolic: SRS Is Ready For The Role Of Opposition

Tomislav NikolicBelgrade: The SRS deputy leader Tomislav Nikolic said today that “it’s looking ever more likely that the government will go the other way”—i.e., that it will be formed by the SPS and the DS.

Nikolic said that the SRS was ready to play the positive role as opposition, as it had been before, and it was clear “what the opposition’s job is”. He added that if the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) “are the opposition, the Democratic Party (DS) will have nothing to look forward to.”

He said that in talks with the SRS and DSS, SPS leader Ivica Dacic had “asked to be the sole deputy prime minister,” but that it had not been possible for the Radicals not to have a single deputy prime minister.

Nikolic stressed, “It’s easy to think up reasons when you don’t want something. We wrapped all that up very quickly and all we needed was some time to make that government official. But, time is running out. If anyone now thinks that it is easy to pull the wool over their voters’ eyes, they’re sadly mistaken.”

The SRS deputy leader said that voters “remember and know how to get even.”

He said, “Just don’t let them say in a year or so’s time that the Radicals have stolen their voters, and that we won’t give them back. We’re not stealing anything from anyone, but the Serbian people appreciate politicians not only for what they say during the campaign, but also what they do after the campaign.”
