Dacic: First Parliament Session On Wednesday Won’t Have Majority For New Government

Ivica DacicBelgrade: The SPS leader Ivica Dacic stated yesterday that the first parliament session on Wednesday will not have a majority to elect a new government.

The SPS leader added that for that reason the session will be delayed before new speaker and deputies are appointed. He said his pre-election coalition with the Associated Pensioners Party (PUPS) and United Serbia (JS) will meet tomorrow in order to harmonize their next moves in ongoing talks to form the next cabinet.

He said that their coalition will remain united, and added there was “no price that could be paid to break up this unity”. The Socialists are currently officially involved in talks with the SRS-DSS.

Dacic revealed that the contentious issues in those discussions include the implementation of the social and economic program regarding the status of pensioners, and the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA).

He explained, unless the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition manages to agree on how to proceed on these two points, the Radicals (SRS) and PM Vojislav Kostunica’s Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) will be notified about this. Afterwards, he said, his party organs will decide on the next steps.
