SPS: We Won’t Allow New Elections

Slavica Dukic DejanovicBelgrade: The SPS Vice-President Slavica Dukic-Dejanovic stated yesterday that their party will talk with other parties if no agreement is reached with the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and DSS-NS.

Dukic-Dejanovic said, “We haven’t ruled out the possibility of cooperation with anyone who agrees with our manifesto and reformist ideas. There are two key concepts here: Serbia in the EU and a united Serbia,”

The SPS vice-president opined that it was logical to begin the search for a compromise by talking to the Democratic Party of Serbia-New Serbia (DSS-NS) bloc. “But, if there is no prospect of an agreement with the DSS or SRS, then we’ll definitely speak with the others. We won’t allow new elections,” she said.

The SPS vice-president said that she saw no u-turn towards the Democratic Party (DS) in the wake of United Serbia (JS) leader Dragan Markovi?’s recent comments that he would prefer to form a government with the DS than the DSS-NS or SRS.

“That doesn’t mean that the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition does not have a united position. All three partners will make their views clear on his proposal,” said Dukic-Dejanovic.

When asked whether the DSS’s legal analysis of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) was a stumbling block to concluding a coalition agreement, the SPS vice-president replied that legal analyses and political life were two separate matters.

She stressed, “No legal analysis should be allowed to hinder those measures that Serbia so badly requires.”

Dukic-Dejanovic asserted that the SPS would never disown the legacy of Slobodan Milosevic.

The SPS vice-president concluded, “We didn’t do that even when we were at our lowest ebb, and when they wanted to pull us apart. He was the founder of the party and a historical personality, and we have to move towards reinforcing an ideological and reformist spirit.”
