Belgrade: Serbian President, Boris Tadic’s security has been reportedly beefed up in the wake of the serious threats sent to him on Monday.
Fortifying the security, the Defense Ministry, the Serbian Army and the Military Security Agency, responsible for the president’s safety, have taken new measures following appraisals that the threats are extremely serious.
Defense Minister and Democratic Party (DS) Vice-President Dragan Sutanovac said, “The Defense Ministry has already taken all the measures it can relating to the safety of the president. I expect the state to finally take measures to ensure the legal security of its citizens, and for the judicial organs to begin suitable activities.”
Sutanovac confirmed that the threats directed at President Tadic were very serious, and stressed that certain politicians were responsible because of the messages of hate that they were spreading. He said, “Those messages have practically opened a competition now for some new sniper to carry out the sanction justified by hate speech.”
He said the leaders of those parties that use hate speech—namely, Vojislav Kostunica and Vojislav Seselj are indirectly responsible for threats. He pointed out, “In democratically developed societies, such parties would be sanctioned by the court and the electorate.”
