Serbia Will Never Recognize Kosovo’s Unilateral Independence – Tells Kostunica To The UN Peacekeeping Operations Chief

Belgrade: Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica yesterday, in a meeting with the UN peacekeeping operations chief Jean Marie Guehenno, stated that Kosovo-Metohija is an integral and unalienable part of Serbia according to the UN Charter, UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and Helsinki Final Act.

In the meeting, which was also attended by Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Slobodan Samardzic, Kostunica pointed out that the valid Resolution 1244 must be respected and added that the EULEX mission is illegally present on our territory – in Kosovo-Metohija. He reiterated that the principles of international law have been violated by Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence and reiterated that Serbia will never recognise that illegal act.

Kostunica voiced that a large number of UN member countries have not recognized the fictitious Kosovo state and that over 150 UN members recognize Serbia within its legitimate state borders.

The UN peacekeeping operations chief Jean Marie Guehenno stressed that UN Security Council Resolution 1244 is valid and in effect, and that it is important to find practical solutions together with Belgrade in order to ensure peace and safety in Kosovo-Metohija.
