Belgrade: Serbian Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic yesterday apologized for recent comments made by a state secretary with his ministry, Zeljko Vasiljevic. The State Secretary had recently stated that Serbia should “import” women from Asia, in order to provide bachelors in some rural areas of the country with wives.

The Serbian president and leader of the Democrats (DS), Boris Tadic said yesterday that Serbia will compromise her territorial integrity for the sake of European integrations.

Belgrade: The president of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal,  has said that it is still early to say whether Radovan Karadzic’s arrest can reveal the whereabouts of Ratko Mladic, the Chief of Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska (the Bosnian Serb Army) during the Bosnian War of 1992-1995.

Belgrade: The protest rally by the opponents of Radovan Karadzic’s arrest, organized by the opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS), started at 19:20 CET, yesterday. Some one hundred young masked hooligans clashed with police around 22:00 CET, on the fringes of a protest rally.

Belgrade: The Serbian police (MUP) force in Belgrade has stated that it will undertake all security measures during today’s rally in the capital, in which demonstrators will gather in the afternoon to protest the arrest of Hague indictee Radovan Karadzic.

Belgrade: The meeting of the Parliament’s Committee for Security was organized yesterday to discuss the circumstances of the arrest of Radovan Karadzic.

Belgrade: The postponement of the Belgrade assembly session scheduled for today was agreed by the senior officials of the party groups. The meeting today was aimed to elect the city’s executive government, including mayor.

The Belgrade District Court spokeswoman Ivana Ramic said yesterday that the identity of Hague fugitive Stojan Zupljanin has been confirmed on the basis of DNA tests.

Belgrade: The U.S. wants to help Serbia on its path to the EU, and expects Serbia to have a pro-EU government – said the U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Cameron Munter yesterday.

Belgrade: Showing no concern on the radicals’ protest threat, the acting Belgrade Mayor Zoran Alimpic stated yesterday that “for now” he had no intention of rescheduling the Belgrade assembly’s constitutive session set for July 14.
